The most distinctive segment, and the one where material choice genuinely matters.
Embroidery on gear that gets soaked repeatedly is a poor bet: thread absorbs water, dries slowly, and salt accelerates wear at the edges. For charter boats, dive operations, kayak outfitters and marinas, PVC is the right answer — fully waterproof, unaffected by salt, wipes clean, and holds crisp detail.
Where a traditional look is wanted on crew shirts that stay dry, embroidered patches are fine. The distinction is whether the garment gets wet, not whether the business is marine.
Hospitality and tourism
Florida runs on hospitality, and hotel, restaurant and attraction uniforms are laundered hard and often. Two things follow: sew-on backing, because iron-on won't survive commercial laundering, and polyester thread for colourfastness through repeated hot washes.

Landscaping, roofing and outdoor trades
Crews working outdoors year-round in Florida sun are the clearest case for specifying thread type. Polyester, not rayon. Rayon has a nicer sheen initially and fades visibly within months of daily sun exposure; polyester holds up. Detail in embroidery thread types.
Hi-vis is common on these crews, and the compliance point applies: adding patches over reflective striping or reducing the required area of fluorescent background can take a certified garment out of spec. Keep decoration off the tape and check anything large with your safety officer.
Theme parks, events and merch
Orlando drives steady demand for collectible and event patches — often detailed designs at small sizes, which is woven territory rather than embroidered. Woven holds text down to about 2mm where embroidery stops around 5mm, so intricate commemorative designs survive.

Humidity and storage
A practical point specific to the climate: patches stored long-term in a humid, non-climate-controlled space — a garage, a boat locker, a back-of-house store — can develop mildew spotting on the backing, particularly on adhesive-backed stock. If you're holding inventory, keep it sealed and indoors.
This matters most for businesses that buy in bulk and apply over a season. Buying 500 patches is sound economics; storing them in a shed until November is not.
Hurricane season and lead times
Worth planning around honestly. Shipping into Florida can be disrupted during storm events, and that's outside anyone's control. If you have a fixed date �� a season opening, an event, a uniform rollout — build in buffer and tell us the deadline when you enquire rather than after.
